Jair Bolsonaro has been arrested after authorities determined he posed a concrete flight risk while under house arrest.

The one-time leader was sentenced of plotting a military coup in the ninth month and sentenced more than over two decades in prison, but he remained under home detention pending court reviews.

High Court Judge the presiding justice said the action to imprison the 70-year-old politician was a precautionary step after fresh information emerged.

This involved trying to remove his ankle monitor and a invitation to a demonstration that could "allow for a possible escape.

Judicial Records Show Flight Fears

In a document approving the detention, the judge said data from the unit overseeing his home detention suggested the former leader's "intention to break the tracking monitor to secure accomplishment in his getaway".

This, it said, would be assisted by the chaos caused by the gathering called by his child.

His offspring, Flávio Bolsonaro, who works as a senator, called for a meeting of his backers near the former president's residence to take place on the weekend.

Context of Sentencing

The former president was convicted of leading a plot aimed at retaining his authority after he lost the 2022 election to his ideological adversary, Lula.

High Court judges said that he had knowledge of a plan which encompassed plans to murder his opponent and his vice-presidential running mate, Alckmin, and to arrest and execute the presiding judge - the Supreme Court justice who has been managing the former president's case.

The plot was stopped because it couldn't obtain the support of the military leaders. Lula was sworn in without incident on 1 January 2023.

But a following week, on January 8th, thousands of his followers invaded and destroyed official structures in the capital, Brasília.

The police took action and around 1,500 people were taken into custody.

The magistrates found that the demonstrators had been encouraged by the former president whose plan, they said, was for the country's army to take action, reestablish control and reinstate his authority.

At the period, Bolsonaro's lawyers called the over 27-year sentence "absurdly excessive.

He was also prohibited from seeking elected position until 2060 - eight years later after the conclusion of his imprisonment.

The one-time head of state called the trial a "witch hunt and said it was intended to stop him competing in the next presidential race.
